Drop-Stop technology reduces chain drop, helps shed mud, and reduces friction and wear on the chain, helping to extend its life.

Specifically, a Drop-Stop ST profile means that this chainring is optimised for use with Shimano HG+ and 12 speed KMC chains and is not compatible with any other chain types.
